"We needed to do it," says Doris Dudley, when asked why they decided to replace the old windows in their North Carolina home. "The windows have so much air, we're losing a lot of money in the summer and in the winter with the electric bill."
Earilier this year, they started shopping for quality replacement windows. "My husband is the one that made the initial call to Window Nation," Doris says.
"When I arrived at their home, it was clear it needed attention-both structurally and emotionally," says Raleigh-Durham Sales Manager, Trevor Frazier. "As I walked them through who we are as a company and what we stand for, Doris and Charles truly fell in love with Window Nation. Their only hesitation was affordability."
"We wanted to replace the windows in the house, but it was just one thing, right after the other, you know?" Doris said.
Charles, a veteran of the US Military, had been injured many years ago in a helicopter crash. Doris had spent many years helping him get around. Last year, they got the news no parent wants to hear - their son, also a veteran, had passed away. Not long after, her sister fell ill, and was moved into their home so Doris could help her. Then Doris needed a double hip replacement that required her to be out of work for an extended period, which also meant she couldn't care for her sister, and needed to move her into an assisted living facility.
Realizing the situation, Trevor knew that the Dudleys may have trouble affording the new windows they needed after all their recent hardships. "We worked through every possible option and landed on a solution that fits what they believed they could manage," says Trevor. "At that moment, Doris broke down in tears - full, uncontrollable sobs - out of relief and gratitude."
Trevor looks down at the pen casually held in his hand. "I've been in sales for a long time, and I don't say this lightly: I have never felt more compelled to help someone. "
He pauses a moment, collecting his thoughts before he speaks again. "Doris and Charles are the kind of people who have spent their lives taking care of others—family, country, and community—and right now, they simply need someone to take care of them."
Trevor knew what to do. He knew they would be a good candidate for the Window Nation Cares program. In his email to management, he wrorte, "If there is any possible way for Window Nation Cares to step in and help Doris and Charles receive the windows they so desperately need, I truly believe this would be a moment our company could be proud of—one that reflects our values and our heart."
After talking it through internally, Window Nation decided to donate the windows to the Dudleys.
"When Trevor came to the door, and he told us that Window Nation was donating our windows, all of us were crying," Doris says, her voice hitching in her throat. "I always want good things to happen for everybody. And when something like this happens for me. I said, Lord, you really do love me. You really do love me, too."
Doris stares at the clutched tissue in her hand. "I'm so thankful, and I thank everybody. This kind of generosity comes from the head - it starts at Window Nation corporate, from the CEO and on down. I'm thankful for everybody, I really am. Words just cannot express the gratitude and the happiness and the joy that we feel."
