For Window Nation Operations Manager Pablo Harvey, reviewing window installations was a routine part of his job. But when he went to visit the Regel family, it became much more.
Pablo was visiting Nancy Regel, a Window Nation Minneapolis customer who had recently replaced windows and a sliding glass door in her home. What made the visit so special was Pablo's connection to the family, and the window replacement project he had started with them months earlier.
Supporting our customers.
David Regel, Linda's husband, was a Navy veteran, serving six years overseas in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. When he returned home, he married Linda, became a realtor, and eventually started his own construction company specializing in custom homes for families with accessibility needs. David's generosity was known throughout his community, and he spent many hours supporting individuals and organizations in need.
Pablo learned about David's military service and community activism through his son, Tim, who became involved in his parents' window replacement project after his father suffered multiple cardiac arrests. Inspired by David's commitment to others and knowing these recent medical hardships left the family unable to continue their project, Pablo nominated the Regels for support through Window Nation Cares.
Thousands of homeowners trust Window Nation with their homes each year, and our Window Nation Cares program is one way we support and invest in the communities where we live, work, and serve customers. David was the perfect candidate for our Window Nation Cares program, and the Regels were selected for a pro-bono home window project at no charge to them.
After fighting through a brain bleed and a stroke, David passed away before his project was installed and before he could enjoy his upgraded home with Linda. While David's passing was a devastating loss for their family, Linda was thankful to complete the project she started with her husband, and happy to spend time talking with Pablo about the installation and her family.
"It was a very emotional and meaningful visit"
Linda shared that the original window project was something she and her husband David wanted to experience together. She recounted stories about David and her family, laughing while admitting that he considered himself a "master of all things construction."
Linda told Pablo that David would have loved to talk with the installation crew too, to see the entire process in action. The team was "Very cordial and professional, installers that gave good suggestions."
What she likes most about the windows is the noise reduction, says Linda, and that the windows did a wonderful job of keeping the heat out or in. She loves the appearance of the windows and looking out at their gardens, as they remind her of her husband.
Linda mentions that David spent and enjoyed much of his time creating. Even though it's hard, she wants to continue the progress that David has made to their home in his legacy.
"It was bittersweet, but it was also a really beautiful conversation," said Pablo. "It was a really great visit, and I left feeling very proud and honored to have been part of this installation."
Honoring our veterans
Near the new sliding glass door sits a picture of David, his urn, and his folded American flag. It's a reminder of the life they shared, the home they built together, and the memories that Linda will have as she glances out their windows.
So many of our employees are veterans themselves, and Window Nation is honored to have supported Linda and her family during such a trying time. For us, it's about more than windows and doors — it's about investing in the communities where our employees and customers live. Through Window Nation Cares and our partnership with Wounded Warrior Project, it's all about making a lasting, positive impact wherever we serve.
