It may not look like it from the outside, but Window Nation is a family owned business. Sure, we’re ranked number 5 in the top 10 list of largest remodelers in the United States, and we’ve grown quite a bit since 2006. But even with our significant size, one thing has never changed; we are still a family-owned business. We think like a family owned business; so it is not surprising that company picnics make sense to us. Picnics are how families bond. Why not have them for a company where family is such a core value?

At a company picnic, you can expect all kinds of things, but food and friendship are top on the list. Whether it is hotdogs, burgers, chicken, ice cream, or something fancy like a shish kabob, there is sure to be something tasty for everyone, but most importantly, there will be opportunities to get to know coworkers in a way that just isn’t possible in a work environment. People act differently when they are enjoying time off, and conversations can be more relaxed.

Window Nation is a work hard, play hard company. We love to have fun, but there is also a strong commitment to excellence and hard work. At the end of the day, we want to know that we have given the absolute best products and service to you, our customers. This takes drive and focus, but it also requires teamwork. What better way to learn about teamwork than picnic games?

There are all kinds of games that make people work together, and you never know what we’re going to have at our picnics. It might be a 3-legged race. It might be a tug-of-war. It might be folks in sacks hopping around like crazy people. And of course, there are a lot of traditional games that help to foster teamwork as well, like volleyball.

There is also sure to be fun stuff for the kids: bounce houses, slides, and games. There might even be a pony. We never know what we’ll throw into the mix to spice things up. But we know for sure that the kids are going to have fun.

Growing up in Cleveland and being a part of their dad’s home improvement business, Harley and Aaron were taught the value of building relationships–not just at home, but at work as well. Harley says, “To earn someone’s business, you have to demonstrate that you deserve it. We believe in this wholeheartedly. There’s no shortage of great companies out there to work with.”

So, when the picnic is done and the folks here at Window Nation have had time to play hard, we’ll be back to working hard to build relationships with our customers because, in a very real way, you’re part of the family too. And building strong relationships is what we’re all about.

It’s hard to believe that school is right around the corner. Most schools in and around Cleveland will be in full-force starting on Monday August 17 leaving parents thrilled and children mourning the loss of fun-filled lazy, hazy summer days. That fact makes this weekend the last hurrah for summer fun and unobstructed family memories. So what exactly is there to do to celebrate the end of the summer season?

Well, Ohiotraveler.com is packed full of ideas for family-fun events to occupy your weekend. Besides the myriad of state fairs on tap for this and upcoming weekends, the top three on my list include:

  1. Frog Jumping Festival – travel just 37 minutes southwest to Valley City August 15-16 from 11 am to 5 pm to enjoy all that is frog. This old-fashioned fun filled day includes more than 700 frogs competing for trophies and bragging rights in various competitions. There will be food, souvenirs, music and games for the entire family. Laughter and fun are at the top of the list in this return to the good ole days.

  2. Tuscarawas Italian-American Festival – an hour and 22 minute drive south to Dover will be worth the trip when you are transformed into the world of old Italy – and all that it entails! From August 14-16 food, music, dancing, Bocce Tournament, amateur wine contests, grape stomping contest, and activities for all ages will abound in Dover. This must attend event will be the event of summer for you and your family. Tuscitalianamerican.org offers times and schedules.

  3. Sandusky Magic Festival – 1 hour 8minutes west of Cleveland you will find Sandusky transformed into a magical kingdom filled with awe and wonder. You can be simply amazed with the magic and illusion of all that is abracadabra and alakazam as you enjoy the talents of top magicians from Hollywood, Las Vegas, and around the world. Shows are scheduled for Saturday August 15 at 2:00 and 7:30 and Sunday at 2:00. Prices and other details can be found at sanduskystate.com.

Here at Window Nation we are not just concerned about your home and windows, but we truly want our friends and neighbors to have the opportunity to experience the wonderful community events that help bring us all together. It is so important to enjoy these last fleeting days of summer before the busy back-to-school schedules, stormy weather and early nights of fall hit.
