Lead Testing

REQUIRED TESTING FOR LEAD-BASED PAINT

Homes in Baltimore, Cleveland, DC, and throughout the United States that were constructed prior to 1978 could contain lead-based paint. As of April 2010, Federal law requires any contractor performing renovation, repair or painting projects where lead-based paint is disturbed to follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. These work practices include:
  • Containing the work area
  • Minimizing dust
  • Thorough cleanup
  • Verification process
This rule will apply to any location built before 1978 and includes homes, childcare facilities and schools, where a positive lead swab result has been determined.
